Walmart has sold off more than 4.3 billion shares of stock this year, bringing its total to about 5.1 billion, according to an analysis from Bloomberg.
The company has also slashed its dividend, which paid out $7.6 billion in 2017, down from $10.35 per share in 2016.
The company also has raised its dividend target for 2019 to 10 percent from 7 percent.
The stock market has continued to rally in 2017 with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up more than 6 percent.
The S&P 500 index of stocks rose by about 1 percent.
