Health officials in New York are investigating the sale of prenatal massage, which was first sold to the public in 2003.
The massage is used to treat preterm birth, according to a state-issued press release from the New York State Department of Health.
The sale of the product was not allowed under state regulations, the department said in a statement.
The department said it is currently reviewing the case and will take additional actions as it receives more information.
A review of the products sales showed that “a significant number of these products were sold without proper labeling, which is inconsistent with federal and state regulations,” according to the department.
